Mass. Veterans' Memorial Cemetery Pathwalk
The Memorial Pathwalk located at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Agawam was a dream of Henry B. Jennings. Jennings is a Korean Era Veteran of the U.S. Army. His late wife, Willma, was in the Womens Army Corps during World War II. She is buried at this Cemetery.
The Memorial Pathwalk is located near the chapel at the Cemetery. A circular path is lined with granite bricks in a semicircular path walk. Both sides of the Memorial Pathwalk are lined with upright monument style markers. These markers have been provided by various organizations, clubs, military units, friends and organized Veterans' groups.
The Memorial Pathwalk has granite bricks that measure four inches by eight inches. A Family member, a friend or an organization can purchase a brick to remember any Veteran, whether living or deceased on this Pathwalk. It is not necessary for a Veteran to be buried or interred at this cemetery to have a brick to remember him or her. The Friends of the Memorial Pathwalk do all the work in getting your brick engraved and installed.
Since thousands of area Veterans who have passed on, are buried in other cemeteries, this Memorial Pathwalk allows any one to purchase a brick for any deceased Veteran, no matter where he/she is laid to rest. This is a State financed Memorial Cemetery. The group that is overseeing the Memorial Pathwalk is a Charitable organization approved by the Internal Revenue Service and works in cooperation with the State of Massachusetts.
Money received in excess of the cost of maintaining the memorial Pathwalk are used for various improvements, supplies, and support of the Volunteer Staff at the Cemetery.
