Willma Jennings

Willma Jennings
Willma Jennings, of Holyoke, MA, was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 15th, 1921. She attended the University of Massachusetts and received a bachelor of arts degree in education and Springfield College where she received a master's degree in education.

Willma was a veteran of World War II and served in the Women's Army Corps. She served in the 6888th Central Postal Division, the first black women's unit to serve in World War II.

She became a pre-school teacher in Springfield, MA and taught for the Model cities and Head Start programs. She was affiliated with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the American Legion Post 275 Auxilliary and Legion Post 25. She was the county chaplain for American Legion District 3. She was a volunteer for Womanshelter-Companeras and a member of the United Congregational Church and its Women's Fellowship Group 5B.

Willma died at the age of 78, on October 14, 1999.
